"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound." Isaiah 61:1
Have you ever felt as thought you were in a prison? That you were a prisoner with no hope of escape? You felt as though the weight of your choices, sins, weaknesses, and responsibilities in life were overwhelming you? I think that at least once in each of our lives we will feel this way. We will be in a prison from which we cannot free ourselves. We are truly and utterly stuck. While this may seem a hopeless situation, it is not. We have a rescuer if we will but open our hearts and call upon His name. That Rescuer is the Savior Jesus Christ.
He has all power to save us from our prisons. He has all keys to open any door. Not one of us is beyond the great and infinite power of Him. I can picture in my mind a lonely girl sitting in her cell. She hears a jingle and sees a rescuer opening the door to her cell. At the sight she begins to weep as she realizes that she is being freed. He lovingly comes in and picks up the girl and carries her in His arms out of the prison and to freedom. We cannot leave our prison on any effort of our own. We need Him and He will come. He will lovingly lift us from whatever prison in which we are trapped. He will free us.
You may wonder if He will truly come and free us. He will. He paid the ultimate price for each and everyone of us. I know personally from my own life that He will deliver us. My senior year and first year of college were really difficult for me. I felt completely and utterly alone. I cannot describe the feelings of those years. I know that my Savior was there. He strengthened me to handle those trials I had. I often felt His arms around me as I prayed. He carried me through that difficult time. I came to truly know that my Savior lives. He knows my pains, sorrows, and heartaches. He has turned those feelings into joy and hope. I know that we are never truly alone. He is always there for us.
Isaiah 49:16 says, " Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me." I love the Christus statue. On the palms of His hand, one can see the nail prints that were driven through His hands. One can also see that His arms are outstretched. To me this is a reminder that His arms are always open ready to receive all who will call upon Him. It is a reminder to me that is always willing to step forth and save me in whatever form I need.
